Prepare Subfloor: Ensure that the subfloor is even, dry, clean, and pressure-resistant before laying the underlay.
-
Orientation: Roll out the underlay onto the floor parallel to the wall, with the foil side facing down. It should be laid at right angles to the direction in which you plan to lay the floor covering.
-
Trimming: Trim the underlay as needed using a cutter or sharp knife to fit the dimensions of the room.
-
Joint Sealing: Tape all joints of the underlay to ensure a seamless installation. If laying over a cement screed, seal the joints with a waterproof tape, such as duck tape, for added moisture protection.
-
Moisture Barrier: Consider using a separate moisture barrier, such as 1000 gauge polythene, beneath the underlay for additional moisture protection. Extend the moisture barrier up the walls behind the skirting, overlapping any joints by 300mm (12"), and tape with waterproof tape.
-
Installation: Once the underlay is laid and joints are taped, proceed to lay the intended floor covering (laminate, cork, prefabricated parquet, etc.) on top of the underlay.
